Singings in April and May 2023

  Hello all. Happy Spring. Hope this finds you all well

Due to Easter and Mother's falling on the second Sundays, will be altering our singing schedule for the next couple of months.

We will meet this Sunday, April 4th at our regular time of 1:30 at  the General store of the Shiloh Museum. In My we will sing on the First Sunday, on May 7th. All are welcome

For the pre-singing meal, we will meet Panda, located at 3050 W. Sunset in Springdale.

In Other news:

-Our all day singing will be Saturday May 6 at the West Fork library meeting hall, starting at 930. Dinner on the grounds at noon, local folks please bring a dish or two!

-On Friday May 5, there will be a singing school led by Tim Eriksen starting at 6, also at the library meeting hall. There is a discussion of meeting at Catfish Hole for supper beforehand. More details to come on that.

-For those interested, Tim will be giving an afternoon concert on May 7 at Ozark Folkways in Winslow. There is sure to be some shape note tunes on his set list.

It will be a great time and hope as many can attend as possible.

 There will be no singing on Sunday, July 10th 2022 due to heat and COVID concerns. Stay safe and cool out there!

 BREAKING NEWS  -- Shiloh Singers have Outdoor Singing on Sunday, June 12

The Shiloh Singers of Northwest Arkansas will be conducting an open air singing in front of the Country Store on the grounds of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History on Sunday afternoon, starting at 1:30 P.M. and concluding at 4:00 P.M. or whenever we run out of enough air to sing.  There will be a registration desk next to the vicinity of the front porch.  Due to the fact that Arkansas and much of the U.S. are still having new or reinfections of COVID-19, we will request that all the singers and their invited guests register, have a "none-touch" temperature check, sign-in with name and either phone number or E-mail address.  The email and phone numbers will allow future contacts with future newsletters and other events.  Each singer will also be asked to show their "COVID" shot record card.  Once registered and vaccinations verified, the singers will be issued a name tag, loaner books if needed, and directed to the singer's area in front of the store's porch.  Those with concerns about comorbidities are also invited to wear optional masks.  

Frequently, there are also other museum visitors on Sunday afternoons, families with children who want to take pictures of the museum barn, cabins and garden down the hill, and may wish to wander around the grounds on a nice Sunday afternoon. We will attempt to accommodate any visitors who want to stop and listen behind the singers and try to reserve the picnic tables for those visitors. The Country Store will be open and a number of metal folding chairs available. Singers may also bring folding lawn chairs which may be more stable on damp ground. In the event of rain, before or during the event, the singers may seek temporary shelter in the store or cancel the event if a hard rain is forecast.

Two Big Doings happening with Singers in November...

Hello Everyone...

A couple of new reminders and a new item.  In chronological order:

I hope everyone heard about Mary Ellen Wilkerson's or well known to all the local Sacred Harp Singers as "Grandma" is having a big event. Her 90th Birthday Celebration will be celebrated on Saturday, November 13th. The event is being described as a "Come and Go" type event between 2:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. But first, the family is providing refreshments but they would like to get a head count and respectfully requested that those attending RSVP by November 6th to Mary Alice, her daughter, at 918-885-3743 and leave a voice mail or Shiloh Singers may also call or send a "text" to Syd Caldwell at 479-340-6161 who also volunteered to relay the information to Mary Alice and the family.

Mary Alice also added that the love and friendship shared over Grandma's many years was the only gift needed, but if people desired, they could designate a gift in her honor to: Cookson Hills Christian Ministries or Heifer International.

So first, get out your calendar and RSVP before on or before Saturday, 11/6 and draw a circle on Saturday, 11/13. If you've never been to Cookson Hills before, set your Apple or Google phones or your Garmin GPS for 60416 Highway 10, which is south of Kansas, OK 74347 and look for the Cookson Hills signs or lots of parked cars and smiling people remembering all the good works that Mary Ellen accomplished during her 90 years, and I'll bet she's not finished yet!

The second piece of good news is that our younger generation of leaders decided that we should have an open air singing on Sunday afternoon, November 21st, on the grounds of the West Fork Library Meeting Hall. The Red Denson Book will be used, and we'll endeavor to bring a box with several loaners. Since we'll be outside, please bring your own folding chairs, lawn chairs, camping stools, or an old orange crate if you happen to have one. A number of people acted as "spark plugs" to get a workable date, and make the local arrangements, and you can come to the Shiloh Singers' first open air singing since the pandemic started and thank those young leaders in person and enjoy an outdoor singing like Sacred Harp Singers used to attend before they had time to build a church, or if it was good weather and cooler under the trees and dinner was picnic style.

We'll likely have a cooler of bottled water and soft drinks, and ask those who helped to stand up and be recognized at the event.
